About Keycan

What is Keycan?
Keycan is an super safe online vault for any text you wish to store. Basically it's a textbox protected by military grade encryption. Read more about AES on Wikipedia.
What makes Keycan so great?
Keycan does all encryption and decryption on your computer. No unencrypted data ever leaves your computer. No-one, not even the admin at Keycan, can see what you store in you vault. We can't even see your login credentials; the username and password is encrypted before it is sent to us.
What kind of security algorithms does Keycan use?
Keycan uses two encryption algoritms. A one-way algoritm; md5 and a two-way algorithm; 256-bit AES. The username and password is encrypted with MD5 before they are sent to our servers. The AES algoritm is used to encrypt and decrypt your data on your computer using the original password as the encryption key.
Isn't it a security risk to have decryption code available in JavaScript where anyone can read it?
No, quite the reverse in fact. AES is an open standard and it's security relies entirely on the strength of the algorithm, not on obscurity. We also encourage anyone to look through and review the code to guarantee that it complies with AES.
How safe is Keycan?
The safety of Keycan relies on the security of the AES algorithm and the password you choose. AES is the current encryption standard used by the U.S. Government and approved by the NSA. Ultimatley your data is safe if you choose a good and strong password. If you use an easy to guess word as your encryption key your account will be vulnerable to rainbow table attacks. If you use a short password your account will be vulnerable to brute force attacks. But if you use a 11 digit long password with both letters, numbers and symbols your password wonít be found in a rainbow table and it will take up to 2000 years to brute force.
What is a rainbow table?
A rainbow table is a lookup table offering a time-memory tradeoff used in recovering the plaintext password from a password hash generated by a hash function, often a cryptographic hash function. A common application is to make attacks against hashed passwords feasible. A salt is often employed with hashed passwords to make this attack more difficult, often infeasible.
What is a brute force attack?
In cryptanalysis, a brute force attack is a method of defeating a cryptographic scheme by systematically trying a large number of possibilities; for example, a large number of the possible keys in a key space in order to decrypt a message.
How can Keycan encryption and decrypt everything without installing any plugin?
Keycan uses a JavaScript encryption/decryption library that does all the hard work.
